How many hours are included in your package?
Our small wedding option includes 4 hours, and our larger wedding option starts at 8 hours. But we can easily provide custom quotes for any hours in between.
Have you ever shot at our venues before?
If we haven’t photographed at your venue, we always make sure to arrange a scout beforehand. We also welcome you to join us on this scout so we are all on the same page.
Is there a second shooter included? If not, how much for a second shooter?
Any shoot longer than hours and above always includes two photographers. We have the industy standard option of a Lead + a second photographer, but our best offering is Lead + Lead: two experienced professionals able to capture any aspect of the day.
Who is the second shooter and how long have you worked together?
We have a roster of second photographers that we can select from. In most cases, we have worked with these photographers for over 2 years.
How many photos can we plan to receive from our wedding?
Typically we deliver between 250 and 350 images per wedding hour after editing, for weddings with two photographers. It is about half that for small weddings 4 hours or less with just one photographer.
How long after the wedding can we expect to receive the photos?
The images are ready typically between 6-10 weeks following your wedding, depending on details.
How will we receive the photos?
On a cute Studio Lumen USB key.
Is an album included? If not, what are your options?
An album is not included in our basic coverage, however, we offer plans where you can select one of our albums. Our albums are customizable, and range between $300 - $4,000. We will help you narrow down the choice.
Are all images fully retouched/edited, colour adjusted etc?
The images we take are first sorted to remove repetitive shots and those that just didn't work out (e.g., flash didn't go off, odd expressions, etc.). Then the remaining images are adjusted so that the overall colour tone, brightness, and contrast look great, and finally we apply a ‘Studio Lumen’ look to them all, so that any one of them would look great printed as is (though it can be better with a little more work added!).
What happens if you are ill or there is an emergency and you cannot shoot the wedding? Backup plan?
If you have booked Jean-Marc and Gillian, and one of them is ill, we can still offer a Lead + second, and adjust the rate to reflect this. If for some catastrophic reason both Jean-Marc and Gillian are both unable to shoot, then we will offer a full refund. Gillian & Jean-Marc are married, but not to each other, so thankfully the chances of them both not being able to attend are very slim.
How does the pre-wedding planning process go?
We encourage as much contact as possible, but we always contact you 5-6 weeks before your wedding to finalize the itinerary, and get any details. At this time we can also arrange any scouts, and talk about any family photo lists.
What is the deposit and payment schedule for your services?
At the time of signing a deposit of 40% is due, 4 weeks before your wedding another 20% is due, and the final 40% is due when the post-production work is complete and the images are ready.
Are black & white images included?
When shooting digital black and white is always an option. If or when we are creating prints for you, or an album, we are happy to convert them to black and white.
Is an engagement session included in your package? If not, what is the cost and when can we schedule this?
An engagement session is not included, however, our savings plans can help offset costs when your requirements reach a certain value over the basic 8 hour price. The price for an engagement session is $425, and includes two photographers.
Within the service hours, can we have unlimited shooting locations?
Yes of course! Although keep in mind, the more we are driving, the less time you will have for photos.
How long have you been in the business? How many weddings have you shot?
Gillian has been in the business for over 13 years, and Jean-Marc for over 12 years. With an average of 20 weddings per year, it adds up to a lot of weddings!
How would you describe your photgraphy style?
We try to work as authentically as possible, and keep everything natural. We do not use any lens effects beyond those that have been used since the dawn of photography, and we work very hard on capturing you with very natural looking light. We want you to look back at your photos 20 years from now, and feel like you were you on your wedding day.
What are your favourite moments that you like to capture at weddings?
All the moments of any wedding are important to us, from the intimate moments with your closest family and friends while getting ready, to the ceremony, the family photos, the wonderful portraits of the bride and groom being with each other on their wedding day, and all the moving speeches and events that happen at a reception. However if we had to choose, getting ready, the ceremony, and the time we spend with the couple during their photo session would have to be our favourites.
Do you set up the images or do you prefer to blend into the background?
During a ceremony we try to blend in as much as possible - we wear muted colours, and we try not to move too quickly or in any distracting manner. We stay low to the ground if we must be in front of people, but generally try not to go there. For the portraits, we set couples up in a way that feels natural, so that inevitably they just begin to act and be themselves, enjoying the moment, while we step back and capture two people in love. During family pictures, we can be very direct, as things need to keep moving - yet these photos can be the most important to grandparents and parents who want keepsakes for their mantles, so we do not sacrifice anything for these shots.
Can we give you a list of specific shots we would like?
Of course you can.
Do you have backup equipment and shooters in case of an emergency?
We always bring backup gear - lenses, flashes, and cameras.
Do you have liability insurance?
Yes we do, up to $2 million.
What is your cancellation policy?
If for some catastrophic reason both Jean-Marc and Gillian are both unable to shoot, then we will offer a full refund. Deposits are non-refundable, but can be applied to a future shoot.
